Dodgers agree to re-sign five-time Gold Glover Jason Heyward.

The Los Angeles Dodgers have agreed to re-sign outfielder Jason Heyward to a one-year, $9 million contract, according to ESPN’s Kiley McDaniel.

Heyward, 34, is coming off a productive season with the Dodgers in which he hit .269/.340/.473 with 15 home runs and 40 RBIs in 124 games. He also provided excellent defense, ranking in the 81st percentile in fielding run value and the 91st percentile in range, according to Baseball Savant.

The Dodgers signed Heyward to a minor league contract last offseason after he was released by the Chicago Cubs. He made the opening day roster and quickly established himself as a valuable contributor. Heyward’s return gives the Dodgers a strong right-handed option for the outfield, along with Mookie Betts and Chris Taylor. He is also a respected leader in the clubhouse.

“Jason is a proven winner and a great teammate,” Dodgers president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman said in a statement. “He is a valuable addition to our club both on and off the field.”

Heyward is a five-time Gold Glove winner and a two-time All-Star. He was also a key member of the Cubs’ 2016 World Series championship team.

“I’m excited to be back with the Dodgers,” Heyward said. “I love this city and this team. We have a lot of unfinished business, and I’m looking forward to helping us win another championship.”

Heyward’s impact on the Dodgers

Heyward’s signing is a significant move for the Dodgers, as he provides them with a proven right fielder who can also play center field. Heyward is also a strong defender and a leader in the clubhouse.

In addition to his on-field contributions, Heyward is also a respected figure in the community. He is involved in a number of charitable organizations, and he is a strong advocate for social justice.

What the future holds for Heyward and the Dodgers

Heyward is under contract with the Dodgers for the 2024 season, and there is a mutual option for the 2025 season. If Heyward performs well in 2024, it is likely that the Dodgers will exercise the option and keep him in Los Angeles for another year.

The Dodgers are one of the most talented teams in baseball, and Heyward is a valuable addition to their roster. With Heyward in the fold, the Dodgers are confident that they can make another deep run in the playoffs in 2024.
