World Juniors 2022: Date, time, TV Channel, live stream and schedule for postponed tournament

The 2022 IIHF World Junior Championships, or as most call it, the “World Juniors”, is scheduled to get back underway this August.
The annual tournament is usually played just after Christmas, however the tournament was canceled mid-competition in December 2021 due to COVID-19. Rather than skip the tournament entirely, the IIHF chose to restart the Junior Worlds in August.
It’s going to be a mix of players heading to Edmonton for the international games. Players who were eligible for the tournament in December are still eligible to play, even though they may be too old under normal guidelines.
However, several players may not be in attendance as they prepare for the upcoming NHL season. William Eklund, the Sharks’ No. 7 pick in 2021, recently announced that he would not be participating in the tournament, even though he was included in Sweden’s starting roster.
He will certainly have a different feel to it, as it will be played during the summer for the first time ever, but with no other hockey, it’s a chance for all eyes to be on the future of the NHL.
Here is everything you need to know about the upcoming World Juniors tournament 2022.

Teams will play four preliminary games in a round-robin format within their group, followed by a three-round playoff.

In the group stage, teams earn three points for a regulation win, two points for an overtime win, one point for an overtime loss, and no points for a regulation loss.
The top four teams in each group advance to the quarterfinals, where the matchups are determined by seeding. They will cross between groups for these games: 1A vs. 4B, 1B vs. 4A, 2A vs. 3B, and 2B vs. 3A. Teams that advance to the semifinals will be relocated.
The winners of the semifinals will meet in the gold medal game. The losers will play for bronze.
Russia was eliminated from the tournament after the IIHF instituted a ban on all Russian and Belarusian national teams from competing in IIHF play following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Latvia, who were runners-up in Division IA, were promoted to replace Russia in the tournament. Belarus was the winner of Division IA, but was not promoted due to the penalty.
No team will be relegated, so the same 10 countries will compete again in December at the 2023 tournament.
