Vikas Thakur (born 14 November 1993) is an Indian weightlifter from Ludhiana (Punjab) who won Wins Silver In Men’s 96kg Weightlifting in silver at Commonwealth Games 2022. He also won Silver in the men’s 85 kg weight class at the 2014 Commonwealth Games at Glasgow, Scotland. He won a bronze in the 94 kg weight class at the 2018 Commonwealth Games in The Gold Coast.
Vikas Thakur announced his arrival on the international stage with a sparkling silver medal at the Commonwealth Games 2014. He won the silver by lifting 333, which included 150 in snatch and 183 kg in clean and jerk. He narrowly lost the gold to New Zealand’s Richard Patterson who lifted 335 kg (151 + 184).

Vikash Thakur Early Life
Vikash Thakur’s father inspired him to pursue a career in the sports field. Vikas Thakur first started weightlifting when he was just 9 years old.
At the beginning of his career, Vikash Thakur trained under Coach Parvesh Chander Sharma and worked with the Ludhiana district weightlifting and bodybuilding club.
He is currently being coached by Vijay Sharma and Sandeep Kumar at the National Institue of Sports, Patiala.
Family Background of Vikas Thakur
It was his father who inspired him to pursue a career in sports. When he was just nine years old, Vikas Thakur first started weightlifting. His talent was visible since then. His father is employed with the Indian Railways and is currently working as Mail Express Guard. The family moved to Ludhiana more than three decades back after his posting.
Parvesh Chander Sharma, working with the Ludhiana District Weightlifting and Bodybuilding Club guided and trained Vikas in the beginning of his career. Currently, he is being coached by Vijay Sharma and Sandeep Kumar at the National Institute of Sports, Patiala.
